ntroduction to
Products Liability Insurance - This type of insurance is usually sold as
an extension of a Public Liability Insurance policy, and provides cover in
respect of injury or damage to property caused by goods sold or supplied +
goods tested, repaired or serviced. In respect of Restaurants and food
establishments, products liability would include Food Poisoning. In respect of
Hairdressing and Beauty Salons, most insurers would extend their Public
Liability Insurance wording to include the “ Treatment “ risk.
This type of cover does not include the sales of goods that do nor fit the
purpose for which they were sold and which do not involve injury or damage to
property. Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, you will be responsible for any
loss suffered by the purchaser if the goods sold do not fit the purpose for
which they were sold or they are not of a merchantable quality.
