Mobile Trailer
Catering Insurance - This is one of the hardest types of insurance to
place, simply because only a few insurers and underwriters provide cover.
There are countless Mobile Catering trailers in the United Kingdom supplying a
variety of foods and drinks at markets and countless different types of
outdoor events. If you own a catering trailer, you will want to insure
it against Fire & Theft & Accidental Damage and will also want to include
Public Liability Insurance cover. If you purchase Catering Trailer
Insurance with a Public Liability extension, you should automatically obtain
the Products Liability Extension which will of course provide cover in respect
of food poisoning. The main covers that can be obtained under a Business
Catering Insurance for Catering Trailers are as follows:-
-
Cover for the
trailer itself against physical loss or damage and its fixtures and fittings.
This type of cover will usually include Fire & Theft but you may have to
request it as an option extra.
-
Cover for Loss of
Stock against a range of perils.
-
Cover for loss of
money in the trailer against a range of perils including Fire.
-
Cover for your
Legal Liabilities Public Liability including Products Liability and Employers
Liability.
Most insurers will
describe a catering trailer as any trailer that is not mechanically propelled
and has been specifically modified or manufactured for the purpose of
retailing food or drink and solely used for this purpose. Including in
the catering trailer definition will be the fixed equipment or apparatus. This
equipment or apparatus must be permanently fitted and will usually exclude gas
bottles or generators. Stock is usually defined as catering stock used
in the production of the food items supplied and the utensils used in the
production.
Although with a catering trailer is most likely that Money will be mainly
cash, most insurers policy wordings will define money as including not only
“Money & Bank Notes but cheques, Giro Cheques, Bankers Drafts, money orders,
postal Orders etc. If you are able to obtain Theft Insurance cover for
your Catering Trailer, you may find that the insurer will be concerned about
the possibility of Theft. Always check to see if the insurer has any special
security requirements. Usually when out of use, you will be required to keep
the catering trailer on a home driveway or in a secure or locked compound at
an agreed address. Of course allowances will be made if the catering trailer
is parked overnight at a show or event.
Another typical condition of insurers is that a catering trailer should be
fitted with a key operated Hitchlock, and a Wheel clamp, and have “Thief
Beaters” markings. It is usual to demand that the Hitch lock and Wheel clamp
are manufactured to British Standard. It is worth remembering that if it
is a condition of your policy that you are required extra security protection
and in some cases this may even mean an Alarm, you are highly unlikely to have
a claim paid if you do not put all required security in to force whenever the
trailer is left unattended. Your insurers will normally also require
your Catering Trailer to be fitted with a Fire Blanket. You will usually
be free to pick your sums insured for the Trailer itself and for Money and
Stock. When it comes to Liability Insurance the following amounts are fairly
typical:-
-
Employers Liability
£10,000,000
-
Public Liability
£5,000,000
-
Products Liability
£5,000,000
