Introduction to
Types of Car Insurance Quotes - There are at the present moment, three basic
types of private car insurance quotes policy in the United Kingdom:-
-
Third Party Only
-
Third Party Fire &
Theft
-
Comprehensive
When you purchase
your insurance, you will initially be given a document called a cover note,
this usually lasts for 30 days as is issued to prove that you have adequate
insurance protection in force. Eventually, you will be given a certificate of
motor insurance which will last for a period of 12 months. Don’t be alarmed
though if the start date and fish date are not the same, some insurers start
the certificate from the date their computer system actually issue it.
The certificate of insurance is required to prove that you have insurance and
you will be required to produce it to the police if requested and to obtain
Road Tax.
Insurers used to issue certificates on a “blanket” basis”, this certificate
did not specify the registration number although it did not mean you were
covered for any car owned. Following the setting up of the European
database of vehicles, most insures will now issue specified certificate. This
type of certificate shows your car registration number. Strict
requirements are laid down by the EEC and you insurers only have a certain
number of days to submit your information,. The pole have access to the
database and can instantly see who is insured or not.
You may also notice from your certificate an additional form of cover which is
provided regardless of type of cover purchased. This is called a driving other
cars extension. This provides basic third party cover if you need to drive a
vehicle not belonging to you. It should really only be used in emergencies as
the cover is quite restricted and certainly does not provide you with cover to
“ deal in cars”. The driving other cars extension is not normally given
to persons below 25 or to anyone working with vehicles of any description.
