Car Insurance Information Required - All of us would like to obtain cheaper car insurance, but is there anything we can do to help to reduce our premiums. Below we provide some suggestions which may help you to obtain a cheaper motor insurance quotation. The most important thing to remember, is to never mislead an insurer but giving inaccurate information, this may result in a cheaper premium but in the event of an insurance claim, you may find yourself with no cover.

Shop Around - This best deals can be obtained be by shopping around for cover, try to contact as many insurance companies or brokers as possible. Always compare prices before you agree to accept cover. Remember, the cheapest deal may not be the best for you. Always compare the covers on offer before you make your decision Always buy the policy to suit your needs nit just on the price on offer.

Reduce your Cover - You may be able to save some money by reducing your cover to Third Party Fire & Theft.  Perhaps if your vehicle is old and the value has fallen below £5000, you could ask your insurers to provide you with a quotation for Third Party Fire & Theft. If your vehicle is worth more than £5000, it is unlikely that you will be able to obtain insurance on a Third Party Fire & Theft basis.

Restrict the Drivers covered - Perhaps you policy covers extra drivers that no longer use your vehicle. Most insurers will give discounts for restricting driving to yourself only or to husband & wife and in some cases to two named drivers.

Fit and Alarm or Immobiliser  - You may be able to secure a discount on your car insurance by fitting an additional security devices or immobiliser. If you have any security devices fitted, remember to point this out to the insurer at the time of quotation.

Overnight Garaging - You may be able to obtain a discount if you keep your vehicle locked in a garage overnight. Some insurers will even consider a discount if you keep the vehicle off the road on a drive way etc.

No Claims Bonus - always remember to keep a note of any previous insurers policy number so as you can obtain a no claims discount. Most insurance companies will allow a discount off a policy that expired within the last two years.  If you are not entitled to a no claims discount, you may be able to obtain an Introductory offer if you have driving experience. Ask you employer to give you a letter confirming company car driving experience.

Usage - You may be able to obtain a discount if you are prepared to restrict the use of your vehicle to Social Domestic & Pleasure use. Insurers can sometimes charge extra for business use.

Mileage - Insurers calculate the potential exposure to loss by the mileage that the vehicle will travel. The more that the vehicle is on the road, the more chance there is of there being an accident. You can usually obtain a discount from your insurance if you are prepared to restrict the number of miles travelled to either 8000, 5000, or 3000 miles per annum.  Before you accept this type of insurance discount, try to find out the implications if you go over the stated mileage.

Excess - Most policies will have a compulsory excess of say £50.00 or £100.00, sports or high performance cars may have an even higher excess.  An excess is a portion of the loss that you are prepared to pay your self. Most insurers will allow discounts for voluntary excess but remember, the voluntary excess will be in addition to the compulsory amount.  A policy excess normally relates to the Accidental Damage & Fire & Theft sections of the policy, it is unusual to have an excess on the Third Party section.
